Simplicity, luck & trickery come together to resolve the Timelessness series’ biggest dilemmas. Intermittent chapters flashback to a mortal Psyche’s cruel imprisonment at the hands of a monstrous cupid & illustrate her moderately less dysfunctional relationship with Loki. However, the chronological chapters meander toward not one but several reckonings of various magnitudes from universal destruction from overlapping realms to the regional extinction of all organic life by killer robots. A few huge revelations await readers, but Loki isn’t a stranger to such surprises. Maybe there’s a myriad of lingering mysteries too (Which specific god or gods inspired the camaraderie, design & building of the new temple granting salvation to the several imperiled races still eludes me.).
Assorted highlights: Continuing the theme of multiple beings sharing one body introduced in Wyrd Gods (book 1), misunderstandings & disagreements ensue, often with creative cursing & wry humor. Finally learning about the heretofore anticlimactic threat of the Nephilim. Anubis’ rather dour, Serveus Snapian demeanor. How important the exceptions to rules can be as in the case where even the mightiest of gods could be rendered powerless but never talentless… ouch! The priceless maze versus labyrinth debate. Jörmungandr creatively smashing his prophesy & worming his way into our hearts. Some amazing, potent phrases including “Words are the bane of thought” & “Her apathy cut deep.”
