December 2025 Indie Book Review

A Grave for Us All by Michael Roberti

An Epidemic of Revenge
An Indie Book Review by Joseph Poopinski
4 Stars

This swords & magic sequel pits most everyone against nearly the world writ large even family. Betrayals prevail & convenient alliances crumble often with a dagger thrust into a heart. Don’t think for a moment, “Surely, so-and-so will compromise or uphold a truce & survive.” An insidious sense of impotence or failure nearly overwhelms even the most capable characters. Gritty, stubborn overtones of hate thwart most diplomatic tendencies. When revealed like playing Pickingoose’s hidden cards, those violent surprises always bloody at least one duped person to death, erasing his or her name from writing & history.

The flashback chapters explain how events unfolded very well, building up pressure step by intense step, to whatever scenario recently occurred. Hyperbole & understatement provide much grim amusement & many chuckles. My favorite quote: “But this is about more than me or you or any of us. This is about a thousand tomorrows. And when it comes to thinking about tomorrow… I’m just not that man.”
